Pat's Family Restaurant is neighborhood not-just-pizza joint in (mostly) New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. I'm sure they will expand to Virginia and New York very soon, too. According to their website, they currently have 52 locations in those said states. Fifty-two seems to be a small number comparing to the thousands of Domino's and Pizza Huts out there. However, success only come with good food and service.
Since this restaurant is pretty close to my work place, I've been there a few times with my co-worker. Each time we visit the place, we always make a weird face at eachother. Let me tell you why...
Okay... So, when you walk into a typical eat-in restaurant, you would expect someone to show you to your table, right? Then, you would expect them to bring you a menu so you can order what you want to eat, yes? And, you don't expect to give the wait staff tip until you're done eating your food, correct? Yes! But... Not at Pat's!
When you first walk into the restaurant, you'll notice weird tables and chairs. It looks like a futuristic restaurant that hasn't quite completed all of the decorations. Another word, it looks like Pat's was trying too hard to look cool. The cashier (yes, cashier) asked us to come up to the counter and order our food. We were given giant menus (that were designed to be viewed at a table) to look at while we were standing and waiting to order. After we've ordered, we had to pay for our food immediately. Since I don't carry cash, I always pay with card. The receipt of my order had a line for tip. And, there was a tip jar right on the counter. After we've ordered, we were given a table number to put on our table so the waitress will know which table the food will go to.
During our first visit to the place, we were so confused about the entire process that we couldn't decide if we should tip them or not. We ended up leaving them a few bucks on the table though. To this day, we are still unsure if we should tip them...
Anyway, besides the weird ordering process, the food is excellent. If you're going to visit this place in the near future, I recommend getting the chicken cheesesteak with jumbo fried onions on the side. I'm giving this place 8 dragons for good food and weird service.
