If you've heard that casinos are filled with drunks and are bad for the community, then you might want to check out Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA. The stereotype of a typical casino is not so true about this casino. I was there for the second time on Friday and didn't see any drunks or bums walking around collecting change. Nor did I see a ruined neighborhood. Actually, I saw the complete opposite!
Over a year and a half ago, Street Road had some empty lots and restaurants that you would find anywhere else in the country. Today, it's filled with new stores and a few that wouldn't find anywhere in Philly. There are so many new stores like Sonic and Giant that just open recently due to the economic boom that the casino brought to the community.
So what's there to hate? I can give you a few... How about beverage service? If you've been to a casino, you know that every casino likes to give away free drinks if you sit down at the tables or slots. I guess the Parx employees missed that memo. During my visit there with a couple friends, it felt like we were being ignored by the waitress who serve those free drinks. The ventilation system is terrible. It's so bad that you can literally taste the smoke (from cigarettes) on your tongue! It's very hard to breathe in that casino.
In conclusion, I would still prefer the Borgata over Parx.
